The reason? Dezynamite won another award! We are now the proud recipients of the Merit Award 2011 at the Offaly County Enterprise Awards - second year running!

We'd like to thank all of our customers, past and present who have continuously helped Dezynamite become what it is today. It is a very competitive market in Ireland considering recent changes on a global scale. We'd like to say Thank You for staying local (and regional and national!) - we will continue to do the best we can.

We also like to thank the very helpful staff - Orla, Sinead, Geraldine and Sean in the Offaly County Enterprise Board for their help over the last 5 years and counting - it has been well worth it.

-Dezynamite.

We're now an 'Award Winning Team'!

It has been a little while since we made a post here. The truth is, we have been so busy with our clients' work that we can't keep our own website and blog as up to date as we'd like to. Some say this is a good thing because it shows that there is still business to be conducted in Ireland, despite all the doom and gloom. Maybe there's some truth in that.

To add to that, Dezynamite won an award at the Offaly County Enterprise Awards on Wednesday May 13th! We made it to the final 8 and we received the Merit Award. A fabulous plaque made by Glass Hammer Studios in Rhode, Offaly and €750 was the prize. Suffice to say, just to be included among the final 8 award winners from all over the county is an achievement in itself.

It goes to show that any young business can achieve great rewards for their hard work no matter how small or in what business sector they occupy.

I will try and get a photo or two from the event posted on the website by the end of next week.

Go Team Dezynamite! The iPad was launched to a furore of media frenzy in an economy only beginning to recover where PC and Mac sales were stagnant for the past year. He has reason to be jubilant about the launch. Apple is cementing its place as a serious competitor to a Microsoft-fed world with it's gadgets, but what will it mean for compliance?
Already, we are on Web 2.0, heading for 3.0 compliance. Will the iPad change that? The reason I ask is because of it's capabilities and features enabled while you surf, with more bound to come online when sales of the iPad being in March. Do gadgets like this influence how the structure of internet surfing should be? I'm not an expert, but I reckon there's a good debate in there somewhere.
In the meantime, I shall dream of possessing my own iPad, for I like it... a lot! It's only 1.5 pounds in weight, half an inch thick, it has a touchscreen and all the great capabilities of the iPhone. Sure, I'm a Mac convert!

-Seanie.

Website loading speed a factor for search engines?

Not long ago, Google's Matt Cutts suggested that page speed may soon become a ranking factor in the world's most popular search engine. Speed has been a consistent theme with Google for over a year, due to various tools at web developers' disposal, namely their own web browser, Google Chrome. It has become quite evident that Google places a great deal of importance on speeding up the internet experience. With that in mind, it's not hard to see why Cutts' suggestion could soon become a reality. Google has always maintained that it is trying to deliver the best user experience, and by delivering results that load quickly will allow users should get just that.

While many website developers are embracing the notion of speed as a ranking factor as a welcome change, there are some who take issue with it for a variety of reasons, such as:

How (or If) a site will be found in a search.

Political issue between countries of a different stage in technological advancement.

Will restrictions be placed on media-rich content like videos and Flash?

Monopolies may develop, allowing rich corporations to squeeze out smaller competitors.

Despite how you feel about the possibility of Google using page speed as a ranking factor, it is probably going to happen. Consider Google's recently introduced real-time results. The quicker Google can crawl the web, the quicker your website will appear in a search (if constructed correctly!).

As far as speeding up your site in general, Google has its own tips for webmasters. It has offered a site performance improvement using its Webmaster Tools. Webmaster Tools has a Site Performance feature, which shows you a performance overview graph. This looks at the aggregated speed numbers for your site, based on the pages that were most frequently accessed by visitors who use the Google Toolbar and have the PageRank feature activated.

Google says, "By using data from Google Toolbar users, you don't have to worry about us testing your site from a location that your users do not use. For example, if your site is in Germany and all your users are in Germany, the chart will reflect the load time as seen in Germany. Similarly, if your users mostly use dial-up connections (or high-speed broadband), that would be reflected in these numbers as well. If only a few visitors of your site use the Google Toolbar, we may not be able to show this data in Webmaster Tools."

You can read more about the future plans of this from Web Pro News here:
http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2009/12/09/google-stresses-speed-yet-again-with-new-tool

Enjoy,

Seanie.

<< Back to Dezynamite's website

Dezynamite's First Blog Entry

Welcome one and all, Dezynamite has begun to think about spreading its resources and visual placement on the web with - that's right - a BLOG!
